MY SHOES

My shoe’s, they are not so clean.

There is some dirt on them from the places I have walked.
and they have scuff marks too, from the kicking of rocks.

Also, some things are stuck to them and I can’t get them off,
and the laces…, the laces are frayed and broken in spots.
It seems I have done a lot of tying and untying of various knots.

My feet have often wanted out and for some room to breathe.
The feeling of freedom is what they would need.

I have noticed other people’s shoes, as they have walked on by.
Some of them look much newer, and cleaner than mine.
Some shoes though, look like another step and they would just fall apart.

I often have wondered where it is those shoes have walked.

I suppose my shoes are not so bad for me.

Maybe it’s the miles and the places they have been.
Some I wouldn’t go twice and some,
I certainly would go again.

I look down at them and know they are mine…
...and yes I do believe they fit me just fine.
